Philosophy of Care:
We as pediatricians have tremendous responsibility. We work alongside families to promote lifelong safe and healthy habits as our patients grow and develop. We are charged with helping to prevent big things-diabetes, cardiovascular disease, antibiotic overuse, teen pregnancy, substance use and abuse. Challenges like academic, behavior and mental health issues are puzzles we work with families to try to find solutions to.
I make every effort to do this with sensitivity, kindness, understanding and a good sense of humor. Hard things happen sometimes and I am privileged to be a shoulder and an advocate during those times. I truly love my patients and appreciate them as delightful individual.
Why a Pediatrician:
This is a difficult question as the reasons have evolved over the years. Initially it was because the pediatricians were the nicest people to work with and learn from in medical school. Over the years I have grown to love every stage of growth and development. I appreciate that I have the amazing opportunity to impact my patients for a lifetime. And my saddest and proudest times are when my patients have grown into young adulthood and ‘age out’ of our practice.
I love outdoor adventures- especially with my family! Living in the inland northwest provides many opportunities to explore. Every summer we do at least one multiday rafting trip and a number of day trips on the Salmon River. Hiking, backpacking, downhill and cross-country skiing around the west. We try to spend a few days every year in southern Utah hiking slot canyons. I’m lucky to be part of a women’s backpacking group that has explored areas in MT, ID, CA and WA. I also like to spend time with friends, walking my dogs and avoiding cooking and cleaning!
